walking the map of my hand

Spin the wheel of fortune. All our fates will intertwine.

The gypsy with the gold coin belt and bare feet will be the one to tell my fate. My hand is an unclear map to my future, much like her murky crystal ball. My love line she can see clear as day. Go figure. But my life line wasn't the same story.

The shadows chase me through the streets, on my tail like haunting spirits. Distant chants as they dance around the fire.

The gypsy had wrinkles on her face, undoubtedly created by her wisdom and experience. She traced the faint and deep lines of my hand. I looked around to see dusty books in a language i could never understand, and deep red velvet drapes strewn across the walls.
Was this really what i had come to? Letting a woman tell me where my fate would lie?

Spin the wheel of fortune.
For we all will intertwine.

Heartbreak Hotel

I have unofficially, and against all my will, checked into the HeartBreak Hotel. Well, if you look at it from my point of view, it is no better than the motel 6 down the highway. Where the cheap hookers and crack addicts spend their free time, or all of their time I should say. We here at the HeartBreak Hotel are used to seeing every story from all walks of life.
"My boyfriend died", or "My girlfriend cheated on me", or the always classic "It wasn't them, it was me" story. But, on occasion we see people that are sort of stuck in the middle, a limbo if you will.
These are the rare ones. The ones that cant make up their mind. They are neither heartbroken, or in complete and utter love with someone.
They're just, well, in between.
Well..... that brings this back to my story. I'm one of those that's in between.
Frankly, I don't know what to do about it.

In the land of cheap drinks.....

I have been to the land of cheap drinks, dancing in the street, and freshly rolled cigars.
The houses colors are of a tucan's beak and the roofs resemble those of a spanish pueblo.
This place is where you are greated by a kiss and a plate of food.
Everyone is your dance partner and everyone is the life of the party.
Todos viven la vida lo mejor que pueden.
This is the place where parties are accompanied by dominos and a bottle of whatever they can find.
People here fight to keep their heads above water and just drift when they get a chance to.
This is a place where your life is hustle all day, and when the sun goes down, the people come out to play.
A place where you dont have to be family to pull up a chair, and just smoke a cigar.

Wild Flowers and Weeds

I woke up one morning with wild yellow daisies in my hair.
I was blinded by the early Sunday sun,
And I leaned in close to him.
He smelled like eternity.
Or maybe love was what blinded me then.
He was my burst of spontaneity, my ever changing Adventure.

We lay there side by side,
With nothing but are unsteady breath's between us.
I thought that was all i needed.
I felt when i was around him i was really living.
He was the thing I wanted, not necessarily needed.
Or maybe I did need someone like him back then.
You know he called me his wild flower.
That I was capable to stand out in a sea of weeds.
He told me he needed me, but I truly needed him.
I thought he would always be there,
But I turned around, and who I needed disappeared.
My soul was invested in him, and when he went, it left along with him.

Those Girls

Those are the scarlet butterflies of the world....
They are tainted by there perpetual memories of sin.
Did you forget about that girl, the one you called your scarlet butterfly.
She was the one to swing your hand and tell you that the world was such a wonderful place,
Even though she knew the reality was oh so different.
But did you remember that somewhere you left her?
She wasnt so strong.
Did you regret not holding her hand through the dark?
Did you run when the light dimmed down?
Your love was like a nusery rhyme,
Ones she heard when she was small,
When she was actually strong.
Now that she needed it the most,
it was just gone.
Your scarlet butterfly was left alone,
Did you forget?
